Shopping in Ceredigion is a pleasure. Our market towns and independent shops and outlets service a loyal clientele from far and wide, whether it’s a regular visit to the village stores for supplies and a chat, down the lane to the farm shop, a trip to town for markets and high street shops, or online for unique and original products. And, in the best ‘Cardi’ tradition, you’ll be assured of excellent value, based on our producers and retailers knowing and caring for their customers.
Handmade in Ceredigion
Quality and originality are bywords for Ceredigion artists and craftmakers and you're sure to find unique gifts and items to treasure or share with family and friends. There is a strong tradition of artisan craft in wood, textiles, stone, silver and gold, and there’s nowhere better for an opportunity to see, and if you wish, talk to the maker or producer about the goods and produce to buy.
For wood, think handcrafted antiques to modern designs, a personalised walking stick or a lovespoon - hand carved with skill and devotion. Textiles include traditionally woven blankets, handmade quilts, soft woollen clothing, and even imaginatively recycled material crafted into collages, soft furnishings and customised clothing.
Galleries and workshops can be found in the most unexpected of places, deep in the country as well as in our market towns. The Ceredigion Art Trail - a festival of artists' open studios in August - is a great way to explore the countryside, meet artists and explore the landscape and ideas that inspired them.
Aberaeron Tourist Information has a regularly changing display of art by local artists and craftspeople - paintings, prints, collages, ceramics, wood and slate carvings, jewellry and gifts.
Festivals and fairs are an opportunity to browse and enjoy the atmosphere as well as discover all kinds of treasures and bargains - buy jewellery, ceramics, sculpture and quirky decorations from one of Ceredigion's craftmakers, and take home something unique.
Cardigan's Guildhall is a distinctive building, and home to the Guildhall Market where you'll find a variety of traders in the historic two level market hall, whilst the Corn Exchange Gallery
hosts different arts and crafts exhibitions each week. Find crafts and artwork by local artists at Cardigan Castle, Custom House Gallery, Oriel Pendre and the Tourist Information Centre at Theatr Mwldan, only a short walk away from each other, and take time to browse along the main street and lanes either side, where you will find an eclectic and interesting mix of privately owned shops.
