Watch for marine wildlife in Cardigan Bay

Cardigan Bay supports bottlenose dolphins, harbour porpoises and grey seals, alongside a variety of seabirds. Shore viewpoints around New Quay, Mwnt and other coastal headlands offer opportunities to watch, but sightings vary with the season, conditions and animal movements. Bring binoculars and patience rather than treating wildlife watching as a guaranteed encounter.

Explore different habitats

The cliffs near Bird Rock, the dunes at Ynyslas and the Teifi's wetlands each offer different wildlife possibilities. Look beyond the larger animals to plants, rockpool life and the birds using shore and estuary.

Give wildlife space

Keep your distance, stay on appropriate paths and follow current local guidance. Secluded coves can be important resting or breeding places, so enjoy sightings without approaching or disturbing animals.
