Discover Tresaith's tale of seven arrivals

One local legend links Tresaith with seven Irish princesses arriving by boat and marrying local farmers. It is a colourful story attached to the village's name, rather than a documented account of settlement. Read it alongside the coast's other mermaid and sea stories, which survive in differing versions.

A warning from the water

Near New Quay, a mermaid caught in fishing nets was supposedly released by the crew. In gratitude, she warned them of an approaching storm. Llanina's traditions connect its church with rescue at sea and a sailor whose grave was lost to coastal erosion.

Why the gulls sound mournful

Another tale tells of three sisters taken beneath the waves by Dylan, king of the sea. Changed into gulls, they could visit their father but remained torn between land and water.
