Choose a Ceredigion river valley to explore

Ceredigion's river valleys connect upland scenery, farmland, wooded gorges and coastal towns. The Aeron reaches Aberaeron, the Rheidol and Ystwyth meet the coast at Aberystwyth, and the Teifi reaches Cardigan Bay beyond Cardigan. Choose one valley for a day out rather than trying to follow every river in a single trip.

Landscapes made by water

Ice and flowing water have created steep ravines, cascades and gentler lowland valleys. People added mills, reservoirs, bridges and designed landscapes, leaving another layer of interest beside the rivers.

Read the names as you travel

Look for cwm and dyffryn, words for different valley forms, as well as pont for bridge and rhyd for ford. Riverside paths offer a rewarding perspective; water levels and currents can change quickly after rain.
